Osmosis just voted to stop tipping the community pool with taker fees. The burn rate didn't flinch. Stakers got a raise.
Prop 1052 passed Oct 14. Non-OSMO taker fees used to split 22.5% to stakers, 25% to the community pool, 52.5% burned. Now it's 47.5% / 0% / 52.5%. Roughly 8,300 OSMO a day moves from "DAO reserve" into staking rewards—about 1.7 points of APR. The burn share stayed put. Scarcity was never the argument.
Meanwhile the forum wants to kill the mint outright (target on-chain Oct 20): no inflationary staking subsidy, no soft-burn to the pool, and developer vesting pauses with ~51.9M OSMO locked until a separate vote. Stakers lose ~2% APR from issuance—mostly backfilled by yesterday's fee redirect. Protocol revenue becomes the whole paycheck.
Token Autopsy: stakers win the fee share. The burn was already doing the real work and still is. Ending emissions is honest accounting—until volume dips and that "revenue APR" reads like a weather report. Who funds the community pool then? ProtoRev and auction crumbs.
Is a DEX token deflationary if nobody's swapping?
