Published
Description
Moo Deng, a baby pygmy hippo born on July 10, 2024, at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand, became an internet sensation shortly after her birth. Her name, which translates to "bouncy pork" in Thai, refers to a popular dish, and her playful antics have captured global attention. The zoo began sharing videos of her being showered and interacting with her caretakers, which quickly went viral, especially after one image of her seemingly "screaming" while being sprayed with water took off on social media
Moo Deng belongs to the rare pygmy hippopotamus species, which is native to West Africa and critically endangered, with only around 2,000 individuals left in the wild. Her playful and energetic behavior, often highlighted by her biting her keepers, has made her a beloved figure. This attention has significantly increased the zoo's visitors and sparked discussions about conservation
