Ethereum blocks just got a fast lane. Ether.fi made all 12 of its node operators take it.
Optimum's mump2p went live on Ethereum mainnet today: a sidecar that re-encodes blocks and attestations with random linear network coding, riding alongside Ethereum's normal gossip. 16 operators, ~22,000 validators and 1.4M+ ETH are already on it. Ether.fi made it mandatory.
Early numbers: blocks 2-4x faster, seen first in 9 of 10 measurements. All self-reported, and the "total value boosted" headline is $3.4B in the press release and $3.7B on Optimum's own blog.
Part of the pitch is helping remote validators who lose rewards to late blocks. The FAQ: receiving faster is open to anyone. Sending faster needs 200+ validators.
"Speed is money," says Optimum's CEO. So, apparently, is having 200 validators.
